Funeral grants

When a person with cystic fibrosis dies, we can provide a grant of £750 to help with funeral costs. Grants are usually processed within 10 days of receiving a completed application, and we can pay the grant to funeral directors directly if this is more convenient.

  • Bereavement resources

We have a number of information resources to support you if you know someone with cystic fibrosis who has died, including a booklet for parents who have lost a child and a booklet for children who have lost a parent. Take a look at our bereavement resources and find out about further support.

  • Other organisations providing support

There may be certain bereavement benefits you can apply for following the death of your spouse or partner. Which benefits and how much you qualify for will depend on your circumstances.

The Children’s Funeral Fund in England can help to pay for some of the funeral costs for a child under 18, or a baby stillborn after the 24th week of pregnancy. It is not means-tested: what you earn or how much you have in savings will not affect what you get. The burial or cremation must take place in England.

Funeral Expenses Payments are provided by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to help with the cost of a funeral for a close family member. You can apply if you are on certain means-tested benefits. Contact the DWPs’ Bereavement Service helpline 0800 731 0469.

Additional help may be available from other charities such as ReactChild Bereavement UKWinstons WishWAY and Cruse Bereavement Care
